It was Sunday September 12th 2021, just a week after our first State Park adventure and another beautiful warm fall day. We decided that we wanted to get out and enjoy the weather but we were not sure where to go. After thinking about it for a bit we decided to head to Little Falls and Lindbergh State Park. The park is located just south of Little Falls Minnesota and is the location of Charles A Lindbergh’s childhood home. Charles Lindbergh is the world-famous aviator who flew the first nonstop, solo transatlantic flight in May 1927. The 110 acre farm was deeded to the state of Minnesota for the construction of a state park in his name. When we arrived in Little Falls we quickly found out that the town was not just a little busy but extremely busy. The Little Falls art fair was going on and traffic was moving slowly. On a positive note we were able to see most of the art fair at a slow speed as we drove through town. The park was quiet and we decided to hike the state park Hiking Club trail through the park. The trail is a couple miles long with a beautiful bridge that crosses Pike Creek, and takes you by the area Lindberg used to land his plane when he visited his family. We took our time and enjoyed the quiet outdoors and beautiful scenery. When we completed our hike we headed back into Little Falls to find ice cream.
Seeing how busy the town was we decided to continue our way back to my house. Luckily on the way home we noticed a small place in Pierz called Sue’s Drive In. Sue’s Drive In is a walk up eatery and ice cream shop that looks like it stepped out of the past. Their menu consists of American classics including a variety of burgers and other fried goodies. On the sweet side of things they have a large assortment of malts, shakes, sundaes, and their version of the blizzard called a flurrie. I decided to go with a peanut butter cup flurrie and Heidi went with a chocolate shake. The ice cream was delicious and the small town charm was nice. As we sat in the warm September sun and enjoyed our delicious treats watching families come and go with their treats, I was thinking about how perfect the day was and what our next adventure might be. This was a starting place of a thought that has grown into this blog and will lead us to many new adventures to come. We will be back to Lindbergh State park and look forward to sharing that experience as well.
